There is an old saying that "pennies make dollars; dollars make fortunes". In a culture where people are constantly bombarded by media and advertisements that encourage reckless spending and over-indulgence, frugality is often ridiculed or just ignored. But some people were lucky enough to be raised up by parents who understood the value of hard-earned dollars and passed that on to their children.
For people who are truly thrifty, it becomes a way of life and they see it as a creative challenge rather then a sacrifice. Creative people enjoy challenging their creativity, which is why frugality can actually be fun for them. It can be argued that frugality is part of what made America great, and thrift, hard work, stamina, and ingenuity should help any person or society to grow and advance.
